Chris Zell has served as Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer since June 2021. He joined Wendy’s in 2017 as Senior Director and Head of Information Security.
He leads the Information Security team, which is responsible for Wendy’s System-wide cyber security efforts to secure and protect information that is important to the Company and its customers.
Chris values servant leadership in all that he does – a style he learned and honed during a 22-year career in the United States Air Force, where he built, secured and protected United States Department of Defense networks from the most advanced cyber threats in the world.
He says his career highlights at Wendy’s thus far have been building an industry-leading cyber security team and developing junior employees into leaders. He also serves as Chair of Wendy’s Veteran Employee Resource Group (WeVets), which supports the Company’s overall Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.
If you run into Chris at a Wendy’s restaurant, you’ll likely see him ordering a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger – hold the mayo.
An active community member, Chris serves on the Cyber Advisory Board for the State of Ohio and on the Advisory Board of the Ohio Cyber Range Institute. He’s also Vice Chairman of the Retail and Hospitality Information Sharing and Analysis Center, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Cybersecurity Collaborative.
In 2021, Chris was recognized with an OnCon Icon Award and named a Top 50 Information Security Professional. He was named to the Global Chief Information Security Officer 100 list in 2020 by Forcepoint.
He holds a B.S. in Information Technology from Western Governor’s University in Salt Lake City, UT.
