When was the first Wendy's opened?

Listen up, fast food history buffs! The first Wendy's swung open its doors on November 15, 1969, in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Not exactly the summer of love, but definitely the autumn of square patties. Here in the UK, our first restaurant launched in Reading, Berkshire on 2 June 2021.

That original Wendy’s restaurant on East Broad Street started with just five menu items and a dream. No mobile ordering, no delivery apps, not even a drive-thru. Just quality burgers that were actually square because, as our Founder Dave said, "We don't cut corners."

So, there you have it: 1969. The same year humans walked on the moon, Wendy's walked into the fast-food game and changed it forever. Neil Armstrong took one small step for man; Dave Thomas took one giant leap for lunchtime.

Why are Wendy's burgers square?

Because we never cut corners - literally. Our square burgers are made with fresh, never frozen beef, and our founder, Dave Thomas, wanted them to be a symbol of our commitment to quality. A square patty allows us to use a larger, flatter piece of meat that could be cooked more evenly and quickly on the griddle. Dave famously said he didn't want customers to have "bites without meat". A square patty, when placed on a round bun, extends slightly beyond the bun's edge, ensuring that every bite begins with that fresh beef.

What time does Wendy’s open?

Whether you're up with the sun or chasing cravings after dark, Wendy’s has you covered. From sizzling breakfast favourites to juicy square burgers and late-night bites, our menu’s ready when you are. Some of our restaurants even stay open late for you night owls - because hunger doesn’t follow a schedule.

What are the sizes of Wendy’s drinks?

Listen up, UK family! Confused about our American-sized drinks? We gotcha. Our small is 12oz - that's basically your standard 300ml can. Nothing fancy, just thirst-quenching realness. Need more sip with that square patty? Our 16oz is your move - coming in at about 470ml, it's just shy of a proper British pint. Perfect for when you're handling our medium meals like a boss. And for you overachievers with the serious thirst? Our 20oz is a full UK pint (568ml). Because when you're demolishing a Dave's Triple, you need proper hydration. No judgment here - size matters when it comes to washing down greatness.
