Why This Matters: Christian's Story
Christian spent more than five years in foster care, often separated from his brother Brody, longing for the one thing every child deserves: a family. With help from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption's® Wendy's Wonderful Kids® program, that dream became reality.
His Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiter, Cyndi, recognized the deep importance of Christian's bond with his brother and connected with Sean, a single dad who had previously adopted Brody. More About the Foundation:
In 1992, Wendy's founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted himself, gave adoption a national platform by creating the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Its mission is to dramatically increase the number of adoptions of children waiting in North America's foster care systems.
Through national awareness campaigns and innovative programs, including its signature program Wendy's Wonderful Kids®, the Foundation is dedicated to achieving the vision that every child will have a permanent home and a loving family. Through the generous support of its franchisees, operators, employees, suppliers and customers, Wendy's has raised more than $340 million over the past three decades.
Through Wendy's Wonderful Kids, the Foundation supports the hiring of adoption professionals, known as Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiters, who are dedicated to serving children who have been in foster care the longest. This includes teenagers, children with special needs and siblings. Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiters work with smaller caseloads of 12-15 children to ensure that each child receives the time, resources and support they deserve. To date, more than 15,000 children in the United States and Canada have been adopted through the program.
